Assemblyman Chris Brooks has more than 25 years of experience in the electrical contracting, renewable energy, and utility industries. He started his career as an electrician, and in 2001 formed Las Vegas Solar Electric a pioneer in the rooftop solar industry. From 2004 – 2014, as the director of Bombard Renewable Energy, he managed all aspects of the company’s solar projects. In 2014, he joined Valley Electric Association, Inc., as Executive Vice President of Energy Services.
The Assemblyman was elected in 2016 to represent Nevada’s Tenth Assembly District in the State Legislature. He served in the 79th Legislative Session on a number of committees, including as Chair of the Assembly Commerce Committee’ Energy Subcommittee. Assemblyman Brooks was a critical piece of Nevada’s heralded clean energy session, authoring and introducing the legislation that restarted Nevada’s rooftop solar industry and created consumer rights for rooftop customers to both generate their own energy and be protected when entering into installation contracts. He authored and introduced a bill to increase Nevada’s renewable portfolio standard, which secured significant bi-partisan and public support.
Assemblyman Brooks was the driving force in securing Assembly passage of bills that created new clean energy financing, provided opportunities for low-income Nevadans to access energy efficiency programs, and ensured a legislative path to shape Nevada’s potential restructured energy market. Assemblyman Brooks’ innovative work in his freshman session at the Nevada Legislature has earned him the Rising Environmental Leader Award from the National Caucus of Environmental Legislator’s.
